Just the Perfect Size

Like many an organizationally-obsessed mom, I have a series of boxes on shelves in the garage labeled 6-9 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2T and so forth. Over the weekend, I went “shopping” at home and unearthed the box of Q-ster’s old 18 month clothes. A whole set of cute duds for his little brother!

I can’t believe the good condition of the clothes. The infant outfits looked much more worn due to the high frequency of washing (multiple changes of clothes per day for various baby leaks). The age 2’s and 3’s are a bit shabby because the kids stop growing so fast and can wear the same size for a whole year.

I guess 18 months is the perfect age for hand-me-downs – the age of a slightly less messy child who is still outgrowing clothes quickly.

In any case, 16 month old Buster looks spiffy and so mature in his new, bigger outfits.

I wish you would come to my house and organize my huge piles of clothes... I started out so good and now I just throw stuff on top of the boxes instead of putting them IN the boxes. Sigh.

Re-using clothes is one area that has been a problem for me, since my kids are different genders and their birthdays are 6 months apart. I'm very sad about it, actually, because I really loved some of my daughter's clothes, but there's no way my son will be wearing them. So disappointing.

I'm usually so good about storing outgrown clothes. But as my girl gets older, less and less of her clothes are gender-neutral-enough to hand down. I currently have a gigantic pile of outgrown clothes sitting on the counter in my sons room. I just keep tossing stuff on. Maybe you've inspired me to put a little time in this week organizing it, boxing up what can go to resale next season, and donating what can't.

I love getting out my old bins and pulling out "new clothes" for my little one. Many of the dresses, in particular, were barely worn & look brand new. One of the benefits of having 2 girls.

Cute photos - love the "new" duds. The fact that we get to reuse old clothes and reminisce about when we used them the first time around makes me all the happier to have two boys.

On a scarier note, our little C is also wearing 18 month size at a ripe old age of 9 months. He is almost ready to graduate to 2T pajamas!!
