Brilliant Childcare Planning

I heard on the radio last week: The hot place to have date night is IKEA. You drop off the kids in the supervised Smaland play area, head to the restaurant and eat Swedish food while relaxing with your spouse. Maybe you’ll even find a nice lamp or sofa to take home too.

What a brilliant idea! This is on par with the moms who join a gym so that they can take a shower in peace while their toddlers play in the gym child care room. Clever, clever thinking.

Check out this silly song by Jonathan Coulton, titled IKEA in the Funny Songs category.

Long ago in days of yore
It all began with a god named Thor
There were Vikings and boats
And some plans for a furniture store

Cute lyrics too.

We have totally used Smaland to get some time to ourselves. IKEA rocks! :)

We'd have to drive about 4 hours for this kind of date. But I do like those Swedish meatballs.

Brilliant! Now if only they start serving wine with their meatballs...

I used Smaland for Andrew when I took a solo trip with the two boys. He loved it and I managed to get more done with just the baby. The problem is they only give you 45 minutes! I wonder if they extend it for date night. That is a fabulous idea though. Can't beat free childcare.

I'm not a total germ-o-phobe, but I always thought of those places as huge, child-freindly Petri dishes.

(but, I still love Ikea!)
