Dreaming of Christmas

Since we didn't do any Halloween prep until October 30 (aside from the costume), I'm going to see if we can be a bit more prepared for Christmas. Yes, totally skipping Thanksgiving, because for me, Thanksgiving is about food and family, not decorating.

We have a real fireplace mantle now, and I want a set of hooks from which to hang stockings. Which ones to choose?

This train is adorable and would provide one hook for each of the four of us:

I also like these snowflakes:

I could also buy bases to make my own toppers, but who am I kidding? I'm never going to get around to that.

And then there are these "Fiber Optic Stocking Holders" with no explanation of what the fiber optics do. Is there some kind of lighting or electricity involved? Does Verizon offer a 20Mpbs download/upload rate to the Christmas stocking?

Question for you more veteran parents: Should I get two hooks or four? I think it would be fun to have four, but perhaps filling my own and SwingDaddy's stockings in addition to the children's will get tiresome year after year, and it would be better to do two. This is the first Christmas that Q-ster will remember well, so whatever precedent we set is the one we'll need to follow. The pressure is on!

Get four. Grown-ups need stockings, too, and you and SwingDaddy can fill each other's.

Plus it looks nicer on the mantel. :)

Yes, get four. We don't always fill the grown-up ones but they look nice on display.

(We have one for the dog too.)

another vote for four stocking holders! I also vote for the snowflakes... That might be because my house happens to be overrun with trains... also, something cutsey might not be as cute to the kids when they're older...

agreed, you and SD should fill stockings for each other. plus, as a grown-up child now, i can attest that the kids will enjoy filling your stockings when they're older. my sister and i like filling my mom's stocking each year. :)

Get four... maybe your wee ones will put a few treats into your stockings eventually. ;-)

I like the train.

Get 4. We have a tradition of opening family presents the night before Christmas and Santa leaves the stocking presents. Everything doesn't have to fit in the stocking but the stocking lays across the gifts.

I agree you can fill each others.

Definitely 4. I like to fill TSO's with oddly flavored Gu. The train will be hard to add to if/when they get married. Or, conversely, weird looking if one is away for the holiday skiing in Switzerland

I have been looking everywhere for the fiber optic train stocking holders. I bought 2 a couple years ago and since then we have had 2 more children and I would like to get matching sets. Any idea where I can purchase these? Chris

Chris - I wrote this a couple of years ago and saw the fiber optic ones online somewhere, not in a store. Good luck, I hope you can find them!
