Allowed to Vote

We made it to the voting site at the nearby middle school tonight after dinner, wondering if there would be any issues with our address change. SwingDaddy had received his voter registration notice at the new address the day before yesterday, but I hadn't gotten mine, even though I entered both changes at the same time. I came equipped with ID, a real estate document, and an electric bill, in case I needed to flourish any paperwork. No need – our names were on their amended voters list, and we were able to take our spot in the short line, with Q declaring that voting was fun because all the workers gave him "I Voted" stickers.

Speaking of that electric bill – it was completely horrendous last month. Part of it was that including both houses on one bill, plus a longer than usual cycle, perhaps due to sync-ing with billing in the new area. The other part is that we aren't yet sure where the greatest energy consumers are yet. Hopefully with judicious tuning and lowering of heat, we'll get a less heart-stopping bill next time.

Unrelated photos of Q once again demonstrating his love of Riverdance – imitating the hand drummers with a repurposed cookie tin sent by Appleseed a few months ago.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and rules on names yesterday! The "recognizable but not too common" rule is key. We once helped launch a fledgling arts group that ended up with a name both difficult to spell and pronounce, and although it didn't keep the group from flourishing, it was a pain to correct programs, checks, and announcers every single time. ("No, that's spelled with an 'S.' Really.")

Damsel pointed another rule – it should be obvious that he's a boy. Some folks don't care about this one, but I prefer it. That knocks out "Kelly," which I love, but is mostly a girl name now.

We have a few other lower-importance preferences too, like not sharing a first initial with SwingDaddy, me, or Q, and not sounding ultra-WASPy or ultra-Biblical (even though I love Elijah). I think that basically leaves nothing left, so we'll go check out the sites that Mayberry recommended – Nymbler and one I've seen before, Name Voyager. My sister is due with her first boy just a month before Swimmy, so we need to help her brainstorm too.

P.S. As far as blog names, I love "Swimmy" too, but it makes less sense after he's born and no longer swimming around in his amniotic sac. Or maybe it doesn't matter if it makes sense.

Have fun searching! I felt kind of a letdown after our kids' names were chosen and pregnancy stretched onward...

I figured the heating bill will be high. But it will still be cheaper than than an equivalent "Therm and Kilowatt Hour" bill here.

Glad you got to vote...:-)

Good luck with the boy name quest! I'm sure you'll find the perfect name. (It may just take a while, based on my experience. heh heh
;-) )
